Dental Implants vs Dentures
Losing adult teeth is a challenge at any age. Fortunately, at Ridge View Dental, you have options when it comes to replacing them. Dental implants and dentures are both excellent methods for replacing multiple teeth. What you choose depends entirely on your needs and lifestyle.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a great option if you are looking for inconspicuous durability. They are indistinguishable from your real teeth, in appearance, function, and feel. An implant can last a lifetime when properly cleaned and cared for.
First, your dentist will insert a titanium post into the gums. This post will act as a new tooth root. The post will need time (about 6-12 weeks) to heal and graft onto the surrounding tissue. Once the post is fully integrated, your dentist will attach a small connector piece, called an abutment, to the post. The abutment serves to connect the post to the crown. Attaching the crown is the final step; it is made to look just like the tooth that used to be there.
What are dentures?
If you are looking for a quick, flexible solution, dentures may be the right choice. Dentures are a set of artificial, removable teeth. There are partial dentures made for just the top or bottom set of teeth or full dentures for both the top and bottom teeth.
To make dentures, first, your teeth will be cleaned, and then your dentist will make a mold of them. They will use this mold to design the dentures, so they fit perfectly. When the dentures are ready, your dentist will show you how to wear and care for them.
